Bernice Olson, 1925-2017

Bernice K. Olson, 92, of Emmons died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, surrounded by her family at St. John’s Lutheran Community in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Lime Creek Synod Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills. The Rev. David Emmons will officiate. Burial will be in Lime Creek Synod Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St. in Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Bernice Olson

Bernice Katherine (Dymbe) Olson was born on April 13, 1925, west of Emmons on the family farm in Winnebago County, to parents Peter and Anna (Singelstad) Dymbe. She attended and graduated from Lake Mills High School and went on to attend Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught country schools in the Emmons area and later taught kindergarten in the Emmons public school.

On April 23, 1948, Bernice was united in marriage toClyde Olson at Lime Creek Synod Lutheran Church. Bernice remained an active member at Lime Creek until her health no longer permitted it.

She enjoyed listening to old-time music, reading cook books and spending time with her cats.

Bernice is survived by her son, Michael Olson of Rosemount; daughter, Laura (Jim) Zenk of Emmons; sister, Violet (Maynard) Tweed of Ames, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clyde; two brothers, Oscar Dymbe and Ardell Dymbe; and sister, Senora (Hartwick) Holt.
