A funeral service for Cathy J. Haugerud will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in rural Northwood. The Rev. Randy Baldwin will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Silver Lake Cemetery.
Cathy passed away of natural causes suddenly Christmas Day, Monday, Dec. 25, 2017, at her home. She was 66.
Cathy Jo (Lee) Haugerud was born on May 1, 1951, in Blue Earth, to Duane and Lois (Thompson) Lee. She grew up and attended schools in Albert Lea. After her schooling, she began to raise her family. She would be blessed with three children and three step-children.
On March 11, 1989, she was united in marriage to John Haugerud in Albert Lea. The couple would make their home in rural Northwood.
Cathy’s no. 1 priority in life was taking care of her family. She was the backbone of her family, and her children and grandchildren would often go to her for advice and wisdom. Cathy loved when her entire family gathered together, Christmas time always being a favorite occasion. In her free time, Cathy enjoyed gardening and the outdoors, and she loved to go shopping — always finding the best deals. Above all, Cathy loved her grandchildren, and she cherished every moment spent with each of them. She could be described as a loving person with high morals who always thought of others before herself.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Duane and Lois.
Cathy is survived by her husband of 28 years, John Haugerud, of Northwood; children Mike (Kim) Lee of Albert Lea, Shannon Lee of Albert Lea and Chris Haugerud of Northwood; stepchildren Amy (Joe) Waltz of Emmons, Anna Haugerud of Twin Lakes and Alan Haugerud of Elysian; grandchildren Justina Lee, Alexandria (Nick) Henderson, Michael Lee, Kayla, Samantha and Aubry Lee, Shaun Haugerud, Clayton Johnson, Tyler Hanson, Emma Allie, Emily (Scott) Schaut, Candi, Alyssa and Joe Waltz Jr.; great-grandchildren Isaiah, Jayden, Gabriel, Jackson, Mason, Josie, Oliver and Adrian; siblings Larry Lee of Albert Lea, Ron Lee of Clear Lake and Jerry (Denise) Lee of Albert Lea; sister-in-law Karen (Jim) Coomes of Joice, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
