A Glenville man who allegedly shot a dog in July with a BB gun was charged last week in Freeborn County District Court.
Jeffrey George Olson, 66, is charged with one count of gross misdemeanor torturing an animal and one gross misdemeanor count of cruelty to an animal.
Court documents state Olson was charged after a Freeborn County deputy was dispatched July 29 to a report of a pet being shot.
Upon arriving, the deputy reportedly found the white Great Pyrenees dog that had been shot limping.
Court documents state a witness said the dog was in a horse paddock south of the side of the driveway when she heard four shots from a BB gun.
The woman reportedly did not have a good relationship with her neighbors and made sure her animals were not on their property.
Court documents state Olson said he did not know anything about the incident and was inside when the shooting occurred.
Olson reportedly said the dog was on his property. A BB gun belonging to Olson with pellets in the holding chamber was found.
The pellets reportedly caused nerve damage to the dog, and the animal is expected to walk with a limp for the rest of its life due to the shooting.
Olson’s first appearance is scheduled for Jan. 11.
A mugshot for Olson was not available at press time.
