Albert Lea Area Schools, Glenville-Emmons Schools, Lake Mills Community School and  Northwood-Kensett Community School have canceled classes as a winter storm is expected to begin early Monday morning.

The teacher workday for Alden-Conger School is canceled.

According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm warning is in effect starting at 3 a.m. Monday.

Total snow accumulations of 9 to 12 inches are expected, and travel will be very difficult to impossible, the weather agency stated. A period of freezing rain is also possible in the morning from Albert Lea toward Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

A blizzard warning will be in effect in Lake Mills and Winnebago County in Iowa.

Winds gusting as high as 40 mph will lead to blowing and drifting snow.
