50 years ago: 1968

•Gary Hillman scored three goals for the Albert Lea High School hockey team in its 4-1 victory over Owatonna.

•The Lea College basketball team raised its season record to 16-2 after defeating Muscatine Junior College 92-83. Jim Roberts led the Lancers with 27 points. Also scoring in double figures for the Lancers were Howard Wilkins and Willie Hester with 19 points each.

•In the Albert Lea YMCA League, First National Bank defeated Peoples, 74-60. The winners were led by Neil Pierce with 25 points and Gabby Pierce with 23. Mike Young scored 18 points for Peoples.

•Winning by pins for the ALHS wrestling team were Jeff Richgels at 95 pounds, Gerald Bakke at 103 pounds and Bruce Dahl at heavyweight in its 27-17 win over Owatonna.

25 years ago: 1993

•The undefeated ALHS swimming and diving team defeated Faribault, 99-81. Double winners for the Tigers were Nate Saul in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke and Greg VanderWaerdt the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. The Tigers season record was 8-0 and their Big Nine Conference mark was 7-0.

•The ALHS girls’ basketball team defeated Faribault, 53-43. Becky Schmidt scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds.

•The Glenville-Emmons boys’ basketball team improved to 5-1 in the Gopher Conference after defeating Medford, 73-57. The Wolverines were led by John VanBeer with 26 points and Brian Cipra with 17.

•Ann Brandt scored 20 points for the Alden-Conger girls’ basketball team in its 52-46 win over NRHEG. Anne Chicos and Sherri Larson each scored 13 points for the Panthers.

10 years ago: 2008

•The ALHS wrestling team won the Champlin Park Tournament by defeating four straight teams. The Tigers defeated Chaska 57-21, Wayzata 55-17, St. Francis 60-11 and Champlin Park 43-21. Seven Tiger wrestlers, Corey Hansen, Cody Hansen, Logan Hansen, Trevor Rasmussen, Logan Kortan, Anthony Tippett and Matt Tiegs, won all four of their matches.

•The Lake Mills boys’ basketball team won by one point over North Central-Kossuth, 63-62. Steve Hengesteg scored 16 points and Michael Johnson 13 for the Bulldogs.
