Deloris Hemmingsen, 1930-2018

Memorial services for Deloris Hemmingsen will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. The Rev. Greg Ofsdahl will officiate. Interment will be at Alden Cemetery. Deloris died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at The Meadows.

Deloris June Hemmingsen was born June 11, 1930, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Alexander and Mathilda (Johnson) Peterson. She grew up on a farm near Alden and graduated from Alden High School.

On Oct. 15, 1950, Deloris was united in marriage to Dale Lewis Hemmingsen at Mansfield Lutheran Church. Deloris worked as a teller at the Alden bank and was a bus driver for many years. She was a member of a book club, homemakers club, Red Hats Society and the Alden Fireman’s Auxiliary. Deloris was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she served on the altar guild, choir and church circle. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, hardunger, walking her grand-dogs and volunteering with Meals on Wheels and as an election judge.

Survivors include her sons Larry (Sharlaine) Hemmingsen of Albert Lea and David Hemmingsen of Alden; grandsons Jason (Tessa Christensen) Hemmingsen of Alden and Ross (Rikki Schuster) Hemmingsen of Mankato; brother-in-law, Rolland Toenges, of Edina; sister-in-law, Reta (Robert) Stencel, of Minnesota Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

Deloris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; and sisters Madeline (Arling) Larson, Arlene (Gerry) Schrieber and Perneal Toenges.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alden Fire Department.
