LaVonne “Bernice” Lande, 90, of Lake Park, formerly of Albert Lea, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park. She had resided there with her husband since September 2016.
LaVonne was born on July 12, 1927, in Wells, the daughter of Peter Chris and Othilda Sophia (Elmer) Johannsen. She was baptized and confirmed at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church in rural Albert Lea. LaVonne attended a one room country schoolhouse before receiving her diploma. After school, she worked as a seamstress at Munsingwear in Albert Lea, Stampers in Wells, Land O’ Lakes in Albert Lea, Fleetguard in Lake Mills and West Central Turkey in Pelican Rapids until her retirement.
On July 3, 1954, she married Burton Luverne Lande at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. To this union two children were born, Duane and Diane. The family lived in various locations while Burt worked as a pipefitter. They lived many of their early married years in Albert Lea before moving to their home on Middle Cormorant Lake in 1977. LaVonne cherished her time at the lake, where she enjoyed fishing, crafts, playing cards and board games. LaVonne welcomed company and loved entertaining family and friends. She was a great cook and baker and hosted many large gatherings. She was always ready to join in a game of croquet, volleyball and softball. LaVonne was very proud of her family and fortunate to have her children and grandchildren as neighbors.
She was very strong in her Christian faith and taught Sunday school when her children were growing up. She belonged to various church organizations throughout her years. LaVonne’s easy going, fun loving, sometimes goofy nature will be greatly missed.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers Clifford and Orville Johannsen; and sisters Lois Stiehl, Ruby Rehdantz and Shirley Folven.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Burt Lande, of Lake Park; two children, Duane Lande and Diane (Don) Johnson, both of Lake Park; two grandchildren, Kelly (Jeremy) Albright of Lake Park and Luke (Lisa) Johnson of Fergus Falls; three great-grandchildren, Avery and Hailey Albright and Rusty Johnson; sister, Florence Sigurdson, of Albert Lea; and numerous family and friends.
