Albert Lea senior is still a leader, even with her season cut short

Q: What grade are you in?

A: 12th.

Q: What town do you live in, and which school do you attend?

A: Albert Lea, Albert Lea High School.

Q: Who is your immediate family?

A: My mom, Nicki; dad, Mike; and sisters Francesca and Dominica.

Q: Which sports do you play?

A: Volleyball and basketball.

Q: What is your favorite part of playing your sport?

A: The relationships with teammates and challenge and excitement of competing.

Q: What has playing that sport taught you?

A: It is important to work hard and be dedicated to your sports. Also, having good sportsmanship is very important.

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?

A: My favorite sports memory is when coach Hansen reads our pregame inspiration before each game.

Q: Which game are you looking forward to most this year?

A: I was excited to play Winona this season.

Q: How did you get started in your sport?

A: I began volleyball my seventh-grade year because I wanted to try something new, and I started basketball in fourth or fifth grade because my mom and older sister encouraged me to try it.

Q: What sports did your family members play?

A: My dad played football and did field events in track; my mom played softball, basketball and ran track; my older sister, Francesca, played soccer, basketball, ran cross country and ran track; Dominica plays tennis and basketball.

Q: What are your sports-related achievements?

A: I have received Spotlight on Scholarship awards and varsity letter awards. I was a captain for the volleyball team, and am also a captain for basketball. I was nominated for the Triple ‘A’ Award, and I also received the Big Nine Conference Scholar Athlete Award and the Minnesote State High School Volleyball Coaches Association Academic All State Award.

Q: What are your sports-related goals?

A: I was hoping to finish the season with the most rebounds on our team this season, but unfortunately I broke my ankle this past Friday and will not recover in time to finish the season.

Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete? Why?

A: I do not have a specific favorite professional athlete, but I love to see the talent and skill different players have.

Q: What are your college plans? Major?

A: I am deciding between University of Iowa and the University of Minnesota; I would like to major in nursing.

Q: What is your favorite school subject?

A: My favorite subject in school is choir.

Q: Who is your favorite teacher?

A: My favorite teacher is Mrs. Heaney.

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: Other than sports, I enjoy playing piano, watching movies, and being with family and friends.

Q: What is your dream job?

A: I don’t have a specific dream job, but I would love to work in a hospital setting with kids.

Q: What is your favorite TV show?

A: I enjoy watching “Friends” or “New Girl.”

Q: What is an interesting fact about you?

A: I was born in North Dakota.
