Duplicate Bridge
Duplicate Bridge was played at six tables on Jan. 9 at the Senior Center in Austin. Winners were Gail and Ray Schmidt, first place; Lorraine Lippert and Ron Peters, second place; Larry Crowe and Bill Momsen, third place; Edna Knobbe and Rick Stroup and Barb Engebretson and Orrin Roisen, tied for fourth place; and Joyce Crowe and Millie Seiver, sixth place.
Duplicate Bridge was played by 11 teams on Jan. 10 at the Senior Center in Austin. Winners were Tom Flaherty and Stan Schultz, first place; Dave Ring and Orrin Roisen, second place; Joyce Crowe and Millie Seiver, third place; Barb Engebretson and Lorraine Lippert and Vandy Newman and Ron Peters tied for fourth place.
Duplicate bridge is played at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and at noon Wednesdays at the Senior Center in Austin. Players are from Adams, Austin, Albert Lea, Rose Creek and Mason City. All bridge players are encouraged to join. Call 437-2750 if you need a partner.
Women Veterans of Freeborn County
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Women Veterans of Freeborn County was Jan. 3 at the American Legion in Albert Lea.
Women veterans present included Ruth Perry, Judi Olson, Deanna Luedtke, Sandy Maiden, Barbara Babb and Joan Paczkowski.
The group discussed the history of the Women Veterans of Freeborn County group.
Maiden would like to contact Phyllis Evans. She sent a message to the Women Marine Association and hasn’t heard back yet.
The group read a Nov. 11 article about Marlene Strehlow.
Treasurer’s report was given.
The group discussed the Yellow Ribbon program. The program is a Department of Defense effort to help the National Guard and Reserve members and their families connect with local resources before, during and after deployments.
Luedtke shared a few articles with the group.
Maiden took donations to the food pantry for the group.
The next scheduled meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 7 at the American Legion. The group encourages all women veterans from all services to join them.
