Nose for News, By Sarah Stultz

Do you know someone who goes above and beyond, who puts others before themselves or who is involved in multiple efforts for good in the community?

The Albert Lea area is filled with many good people, and here at the Tribune we would like to start a tradition of honoring one of those people with a Citizen of the Year Award in our annual Progress edition.

I know I can think of many people who would be well-deserved recipients, but we are hoping to hear from you!

It could be a neighbor who shovels your sidewalk every time it snows, a teacher who has made a difference in your child’s life or a person who volunteers regularly to help those in need.

The person could come from any background or profession, lived here only a few years or be a native who has lived here all of his or her life. The only criteria is that the person is making a difference. The rest is limitless.

Our theme this year for our Progress edition is Investing in the Community, and I believe someone who gives back to the community is investing here also and helping it to grow.

If you have someone you think would be a perfect fit for this award, please email me at sarah.stultz@albertleatribune.com, send me a letter at 808 W. Front St. or stop into our office and tell us about him or her.

Please include the name of the person you are nominating and why you think that person should win the award. The deadline for nominations is Jan. 31.

A committee made up of Tribune employees and a few others from the community will review all nominations and select a winner.

The winner will be interviewed and photographed for an article in the Tribune’s Progress edition Feb. 24 and will be given a plaque in recognition.

Like I mentioned earlier, we hope to make this an annual tradition.

I look forward to receiving nominations from you and hearing about more good things being done in the community.
