District 4 Commissioner Chris Shoff will lead the Freeborn County Board of Commissioners this year.

The commissioners Tuesday unanimously elected Shoff as chairman and District 5 Commissioner Mike Lee as vice chairman.

“It will be an interesting, interesting time because of the challenging times that this community is facing,” Shoff said, citing the county’s continuing response to Mayo Clinic Health System transitioning most inpatient services to Austin and transportation projects as issues that will need to be addressed.

Shoff said his leadership will fit well in his new position.

“I bring steady leadership to this position, and I think, moving forward, we have a lot of work to do as a community to move forward with all of the issues we’re dealing with, including the hospital,” he said.

Shoff has experience as board chairman, serving in the position in 2009, 2010 and 2014.
