Submissions wanted for mayor’s community service awards

Mayor Vern Rasmussen Jr. is taking nominations for the mayor’s community service awards program in the city of Albert Lea, according to a press release. The program will honor outstanding achievements by citizens in four categories.
Those categories are:
• Volunteer of the Year
• Senior Citizen of the Year
• Good Neighbor
• Mayor’s Choice
Nominations are due in the mayor’s office by March 16. An awards ceremony will be held mid-April.
Nomination forms can be found in the city manager’s office and on the city’s website at cityofalbertlea.org/mayors-community-service-awards.
Mayor’s community service criteria:
Volunteer of the Year
A member of an organization who has shown outstanding dedication through projects and service this calendar year. Examples include, but are not limited to, church, 4-H, music, theater, school and civic groups.
Senior Citizen of the Year
A senior citizen who engages in one or more of the following activities:
• Exemplary service among peers
• Creative endeavors
• Promotion of health, economic and other issues responding to the needs of senior citizens
Good Neighbor
A neighbor who has on many occasions offered any of the following: help, understanding, cheer, comfort or consolation in times of need.
