5 things to do this weekend

Published 9:18 pm Wednesday, February 21, 2018

1. “Don’t Hug Me, We’re Married”

Back for a new spin on an old favorite, Albert Lea Community Theater will perform “Don’t Hug Me, We’re Married” at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.

Characters Gunner and Clara return to the stage in the midst of a marital crisis they’re attempting to resolve by competing to be crowned the better spouse. Other characters also attempt to work out relationship dynamics. Those new to the series and those familiar with former “Don’t Hug Me” plays performed with ACT can expect both humor and musical wit. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

3. Singer-songwriter showcase

Singer-songwriters are slated for a showcase at The Bend in the Road starting at 6 p.m. Sunday. There will be an open jam and karaoke.

4. Blood drive

The American Red Cross is hosting another blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.

5. Speaker

Our Father’s House is hosting a missionary speaker during its 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service. Gabriel Ward is a member of the Desert Cahuilla Tribe from the Torres-Martinez Indian Reservation. His family recently moved to Minnesota. Ward will speak about his ministry organization, established with the intention to reach and minister to Native Americans.
