ACT to host auditions for play

Albert Lea Community Theatre auditions will be at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 26 and 27 at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center for the drama “The Miracle Worker.”
Directed by Glen Parsons, eight performances of this classic drama are scheduled April 19 through April 28. There are many acting roles of various adult ages, as well as several children in the show. Many roles are small, so this would be a great place to start for those interested in being in a play, but without a huge time commitment and many lines to learn.
Those auditioning should be prepared to read from the script. Rehearsals will be scheduled on weeknights, with some weekend involvement closer to the performance dates.
According to a press release, “The Miracle Worker” tells the story of Annie Sullivan and her student, blind and mute Helen Keller.
The play dramatizes the volatile relationship between the lonely teacher and her charge. Trapped in a secret, silent world, unable to communicate, Helen is violent, spoiled, almost sub-human and treated by her family as such.
Only Sullivan realizes that there is a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued from the dark, tortured silence.
