Betty Klysen, 1949-2018

Betty Jane Klysen died peacefully Monday, Jan. 29 in West Fargo, North Dakota, at the age of 68 after a five-month battle with cancer.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Montevideo. Burial will be at a later date in Fargo, North Dakota.

Betty was born Feb. 14, 1949, in Mason City to Orville and Shirley Johnson. Betty grew up in her family home located in Twin Lakes and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1967. She went on to graduate from nursing college.

Betty married John Klysen in 1970. Over 47 years of marriage, the couple had three children.

Betty will always be remembered for her just-do-it attitude, and never giving up.

Betty worked in Chippewa County Hospital and later worked at Logic (Micro Dynamics) as a team leader. She retired in June 2017 from Logic after 35 years of service.

Betty’s loves were spending time with her family, gardening, traveling and crafting. Betty was an avid and passionate flower gardener. She enjoyed spending her days tending to her award-winning gladiolus and irises.

Betty had a very generous heart and donated hundreds of handmade mittens to different charities. Her mittens are cherished by her children, grandchildren, friends and anyone who received them.

Betty is survived by her best friend and husband, John. Betty was loved and cherished by her children Jim (Lisa) of Albertville, Tom (Stacy) of Montevideo and Sandra (Paul) Vigen of Horace, North Dakota. She was loved by her grandchildren Brittany, John, Ryan, McKayla and Maddie. Betty is survived by her siblings Lynn (Sister) Johnson of Nome, Alaska, Jean (Dick) Herfindahl of Albert Lea and Ronald (Linda) Johnson of Eagan.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Shirley and Orville Johnson.
