Carroll Jacobson, 1925-2018

Funeral services for Carroll “Tom” Jacobson of Albert Lea will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church of Albert Lea. The Rev. Jennifer Gonsalves will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery in Albert Lea. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea area veterans groups.
Tom died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, at Lodge on Summit Oaks in Burnsville. He was 92 years of age.
Tom was born July 2, 1925, in Albert Lea, the son of Ole and Mae Jacobson.
He graduated from Freeborn High School and the Hamilton School of Business in Mason City, Iowa. After serving in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Bartness on Aug. 15, 1946, in Albert Lea. Together they lived for many years in Hollandale, where he was an accountant for the Hollandale Marketing Association, retiring in 1988 as the general manager.
While in Hollandale, he was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and served in positions on the Hollandale City Council. He moved to Albert Lea after retirement and joined Grace Lutheran Church. Tom was a member of the Elks Club, the American Legion and was a longtime member of the Albert Lea Country Club.
He was an avid golfer, enjoyed reading and fishing trips up north, was quite the handyman and liked spending winters in Arizona. He loved all levels of sports and went to events whenever possible. He especially loved the time spent with family and the grandkids.
Tom is survived by his daughters Pat (Ron) Holtan of Albert Lea and Cindy (Brian) Peters of Eagan; grandchildren Shannon Ostrowski, Amy (Wayd) Wangen, Jake Peters and Ben Peters. There are four great-grandkids, Mya Wangen, Haley Wangen, Parker Wangen and Josh Ostrowski.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Dorothy, in 2015.
