50 years ago: 1968
•The Glenville High School basketball team improved to a 15-3 season mark and 10-2 in the Southland Conference after defeating Adams, 78-52. The Trojans were led by Tom Belshan with 19 points, Larry Perleberg with 17 and Gary Buchanan with 15.
•The Albert Lea High School wrestling team won the District 2 title for the 11th consecutive year. The first-place Tigers scored 116 points to second-place Austin with 86 and third-place Le Roy-Ostrander with 52.
•The New Richland basketball team defeated Waterville 72-60, behind 23 points by Tom Berger and 13 points by Dave Casper and Xan Johnson.
•The Peterson Golf Oil team defeated First National Bank to win the Albert Lea YMCA Basketball League. Team members of the winning team were Gary Johnson, Jerry Butt, Ed Mikulich, Dave Long, Hollis Grorud, Dave Gilbertson, Jerry Nelson and Gary Koeder.
25 years ago: 1993
•Winners in the Knights of Columbus free throw shooting contest by age were the following; boys 10 years old – Chris Rebelein; 11 years old – Brandon Tukua; 12 years old – Jon Peterson; 13 years old – Matt Morstrom; 14 years old – Ryan Hanson; girls 10 years old – Heather Vandecamp; 11 years old – Krista Mueller; 12 years old – Tricia Gregerson; 13 years old – Kristen Frydenlund.
•The ALHS boys’ swimming and diving team won the Big Nine Conference meet with 280.5 points to second-place Winona with 271 points and third-place Mankato West with 212 points. Winners for the Tigers were Gram Cotten in the 100-yard breaststroke, Nate Olson in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle and Nate Saul in the 100-yard backstroke.
10 years ago: 2008
•The ALHS wrestling team won the Section 1AAA title and advanced to the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament for the third-straight time. Winning by pins for the Tigers were Cody Hansen at 112 pounds and Anthony Tippet at 145 pounds.
•The Alden-Conger girls’ basketball team defeated Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, 77-41. The Knights were led by Krista Mathiason with 29 points and Megan Miller with 18.
