NORTHWOOD — A lot can change in a year. Just ask Fringe and Lace by Brittany owner, Brittany Low.

In January 2017, Low was preparing to open her shop. She had a month to both renovate the space and to collect gowns to stock her store, which at the time only carried dresses on consignment.

Fast forward to today, and Low’s business has expanded considerably. She has brought in lines of brand new bridal gowns and bridesmaids dresses, now carries a larger selection of veils, accessories and jewelry and continues tuxedo rental and formal wear alterations.

The expansion has brought about a few changes of its own. Her business is no longer a one-woman show, as she now has seven employees who work in different areas, such as sales and alterations. Low also decided a move was necessary.

“We just needed a much larger space,” Low said.

She didn’t move far, though. In fact, she’s still on the same block. The move became official just as she was celebrating her first anniversary and allowed Low to provide what she feels is a warm, welcoming environment that is fun and personable for those who are planning their wedding or a formal evening out. It also allowed her the opportunity to build a new bridal suite, which includes a larger fitting room and private viewing area.

Brides are encouraged to make an appointment so the bridal suite can be booked just for them. Fringe and Lace is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, 1 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. She will also see clients by appointments.

Those getting ready for prom season are welcome to come in at any time. According to Low, Fringe and Lace has many dresses in stock that cover the current trends. She said floral patterns and ball gowns with pockets seem to be very popular this year. Popular dress colors this prom season are black, red, blue and wine, as well as yellow, which she said is making a comeback.
