MINNEAPOLIS — In leading Minnesota to a pair of top-25 upsets last week, freshman Destiny Pitts and senior Carlie Wagner were recognized by the Big Ten Conference Monday for their performances.
Wagner — an NRHEG graduate — was the co-Player of the Week with Ohio State’s Kelsey Mitchell. It’s the first such honor of Wagner’s career.
Wagner led the Gophers with a team-high 21.5 points per game last week and averaged 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game. She shot 45.2 percent from the floor and 9-16 from three-point range.
In the win over No. 23 Michigan, Wagner had a team-high 26 points. She was 8-17 from the floor and 6-11 from three-point range. She pushed her career point total to 2,055 to move into fourth on the Minnesota career scoring list.
In beating No. 10 Maryland, Wagner contributed 17 points and was 3-5 from three-point range. She had a pair of key three-pointers in the second quarter as the Gophers turned a seven-point lead into a 13-point advantage. It was her 108th career game reaching double figures, tying Lindsay Whalen for second most in Minnesota history.
The Golden Gophers return to the court tonight for their final home game of the year when they host Indiana at Williams Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
