Betty Granholt, 1932-2018

Funeral services for Betty Granholt, 85, of Albert Lea will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. The Rev. Nancy Hansen will officiate. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday. Betty Granholt

Betty died Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Community.

Betty June Granholt was born July 24, 1932, in Gainsborough, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Theodore and Floy (Shussel) Bothum. The family moved to Oakland Township in 1940, where Betty finished school in District No. 75.

On Oct. 15, 1950, Betty was united in marriage to Palmer Granholt in Albert Lea. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Glenville and was active in the circle and ladies aid. She was also a member of the Neighborhood Club. Betty enjoyed cooking and baking — she was known for her chocolate chip cookies. She was a terrific cook and got great joy in preparing meals for family and friends. She loved reading, watching the Minnesota Twins, coffee with friends and having all of her family home together.

Betty is survived by her son, John (Ann) Granholt, of New Auburn, Wiscosnin; daughter, Kathy (Greg) Nelson, of Glenville; daughter-in-law, LuAnn Granholt, of Ramsey; grandchildren Mark (Jodi) Granholt of Scottsdale, Arizona, Becky Granholt of Colorado, Chad Sommer of Ramsey, Sarah (Scott) Veith of Maple Grove, Bryan (Mandi) Granholt of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Erik (Emily) Nelson of Glenville and Brianna Nelson (Ed Meek) of St. Ansgar, Iowa; great-grandchildren Ashleigh, Claire and Elle Reece, Logan and Elise Veith, William and Caleb Granholt, Kinzley and Kase Nelson, and Jordan, Alexis and Liam Meek; sister, Lila (Kendall) Johnson, of Albert Lea; sister-in-law, Edna (Duane) Fenske, of South Carolina; many nieces and nephews; and her “other kids” Walter and Becky Johnson and Kenny and Janelle Thorson, all of Glenville.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer; sons Palmer Jr. and Ronald Granholt; an infant daughter; parents Theodore and Floy; in-laws Peder and Signe Granholt; brothers Donald Bothum and Lester (Gilma) Bothum; sister, Faye (H.C.) Nelson; and sister-in-law, Gladys (Harold) Westrum.
