Marilyn died Monday, March 19, 2018, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Marilyn Joyce Larsen was born Nov. 19, 1928, in Bemidji, the daughter of Claude and Mabel (Zimmer) Ellis. She graduated from Bemidji High School.
In 1947, Marilyn married LeRoy Larsen and they made their home in Albert Lea. From this union, seven sons were born. The couple divorced in 1977.
Marilyn enjoyed sketching and painting, and her first job was painting portraits at Christianson Studio. She then worked in the women’s department at Herberger’s for 33 years.
Marilyn was a devout Christian. She came from a long line of musicians; her specialty was vocals. In her youth, she sang on the radio in Bemidji. Marilyn was a voracious reader, wonderful cookie baker, and enjoyed traveling and going on walks.
Marilyn is survived by her sons Ron (Judy) Larsen, Denny (Sue Kosmoski) Larsen, Gary Larsen, Terry (Eva) Larsen, Mike (Linda) Larsen and Steve (Claire) Larsen; grandchildren Justin, Brandon, Jordan, Thomas and Sam; great-grandchildren Myranda, Clayton, Sabrina, Leaf and Skylar; brother, Junior Ellis; sister, Genevieve Toftum; and sister-in-law, Margie Ellis.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald, in infancy; brother, Bill Ellis; and sister-in-law, Sis Ellis.
Memorials are preferred to Albert Lea Public Library Foundation.
