ST. PAUL — NRHEG junior Tyler Jacobson saw his state title chances come to an end Friday at Xcel Energy Center. After dominating in his first match, he went on to lose his final matches, ending his tournament run.

He demolished his opponent in the first-round match of the day, beating Aiden Willard of Trinity School in Eagan by pinfall in the first period.

Jacobson nearly pulled off the upset in his second match by putting Colton Waldvogel of Osakis on his back in the first period, but Waldvogel would get out of it and end up pinning Jacobson later in the second period.

It would seem like deja vu in his wrestleback match against Lyle Zimmerman of Royalton/Upsala. Jacobson was moments away from recording a pinfall and advancing to the consolation quarterfinals, when Zimmerman got a reverse to put Jacobson on his back. Jacobson was pinned at the 4:43 mark of the third period. His tournament ends with a record of 1-2 with one pinfall.
