VeeAnn Solum, 1947-2018

VeeAnn A. Solum, 70, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully Monday, March 19, 2018, at Chippewa Manor under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.

She was born Sept. 19, 1947, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Elmer and Ardis (Schacko) Wacholz. She grew up in rural Alden and graduated from Alden High School in 1965 and Mankato Commercial College in 1966. She worked for Wilson & Co. in Albert Lea from 1966 to 1968.

She married David Solum on Oct. 17, 1970, at Mansfield Lutheran Church in rural Alden. They made their home in Forest Lake, Iowa, in 1971. David worked for Control Data/ETA Systems/Super Nova. The couple moved to Chippewa Falls in 1991, when David worked for Cray Research/SGI/Maga Foods.

VeeAnn enjoyed cooking, quilting, gardening, Willing Workers at church and volunteer work at the Senior Center. She also enjoyed taking road trips in the summer months. Her biggest joy was her family. She always put them first in her life.

VeeAnn was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls and had a strong faith, reading and studying the Bible daily.  She was ready to take her savior’s hand.

VeeAnn is survived by her husband, David; son, Ethan Solum, of Albert Lea and his special friend, Audra Smalley, of Austin; grandchildren Emily, Abbie, Adam and Aaron Solum; foster sister, Ruby (Madsen) Gilbertson, of Baldwin, Wisconsin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Jean Solum of Owatonna; sister-in-law, Mary (Solum) Frisbie, of Albert Lea; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Glen and Judy Oelerking of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; brother-in-law, Barry (Kristine) Heine, of Albert Lea; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law Chester and Ardine Solum; sister-in-law, Diane (Solum) Heine; and brother-in-law, Gary Solum.

The first memorial service will be at 4 p.m. today at Christ Lutheran Church, 467 E. Colome St. in Chippewa Falls. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today until the time of the service at the church. The Rev David F. Johnson will officiate.

A second memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service chapel, 2210 E. Main St. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. until the time of the service at the chapel. The Rev. Donald Rose will officiate.
