1. Tiger Trot 5k/Fountain Lake 5

Another year, another lap around the lake! This Saturday is another opportunity for community members to participate in either a 5k fun-run/walk or a 5-mile run/walk. Socialized, leashed pets are allowed to participate as well.

Proceeds from the Tiger Trot benefit the Southwest Middle School activity fund, while proceeds from the Fountain Lake 5 go toward the Albert Lea Family Y’s annual sustaining fund.

Both races begin at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The Fountain Lake 5 begins at the boat landing and ends at Brookside Education Center. The Tiger Trot begins and ends at Brookside Education Center. If you would like to register for the race on the day-of, you can do so between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m.

There are awards for the top three males and females in each age division in both races.

2. MET opera

It’s the opera’s take on a father-daughter story at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. For 3 1/2 hours, prepare to delve into the tangled web of lovers, mystery, intrigue, lies, deceit and death that is “Luisa Miller.” The opera will be broadcast live in high definition. Tickets are $20 for adults.

3. Pancake breakfast fundraiser

For pancakes that support puppies and coffee that supports kitties, head over to Albert Lea Moose Lodge for the Humane Society of Freeborn County’s breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The menu includes pancakes and coffee, but also scrambled eggs, sausage, milk and juice.

4. Museum tour guide training

Looking for a place to volunteer? The Freeborn County Historical Museum, Library and Village is hosting its annual tour guide training at 1 p.m. Friday at the museum. Training is for brand-new volunteers and veteran guides alike. Guides help the museum offer tours to Freeborn County schools. RSVP is requested.

5. Live music

Manchester’s The Bend in the Road is bringing back one of its first-ever acts, Angel and Colby. Their appearance is part of the location’s music matinee series. Angel and Colby will play acoustic country and ’90s hits from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at The Bend in the Road.
