1. Cantori concert

The spring Cantori concert is here. Albert Lea’s Cantori choir will perform Sunday at United Methodist Church, celebrating the birthdays of composers Leonard Bernstein, Scott Joplin and Charles Gounod. The concert begins at 3 p.m.

2. A few laughs

A golf club turns comedy club from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday with the performance of Willie Farrell at Wedgewood Cove. Farrell has spent 30 years headlining comedy clubs nationwide and also performs on Comedy Central and in the Showtime special “The Godfathers of Comedy.” Friday’s show is a city park fundraiser for drinking fountains for the city beach, Lakeview Park, Morin Park and Academy Park.

3. Author tour

Minnesota mystery author Allen Eskens is on a book tour, and as part of that tour he is making a stop at Albert Lea Public Library. Eskens has written four books and received the Barry Award, Minnesota Book Award, Rosebud Award and Silver Falchion Award. His most recent novel is called “The Deep Dark Descending,” and was published in 2017. He will be at the library from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

4. Auction extravaganza

There’s a little bit for a lot of people from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday at St. Theodore Catholic School. The school is hosting a masquerade ball auction extravaganza, complete with appetizers, dinner and a cash bar. The evening will also include casino games, a wine raffle, dessert auction and both a live and silent auction.

5. ‘The Miracle Worker’

Albert Lea Community Theatre’s current production, “The Miracle Worker,” demonstrates the power and gift of language in the story of Helen Keller and her teacher, Anne Sullivan. Sullivan and Keller impart on a journey of mutual understanding after Sullivan is hired to teach Keller, who is blind, deaf and does not use spoken language to communicate. The play follows the hard-fought development of their relationship and Keller’s breakout from silence. The performances start at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
