The Albert Lea baseball team traveled to Mankato East on Saturday for a doubleheader to make up for a game that was postponed earlier this season.

The Tigers dropped their first game, 10-0, which was followed by an 11-3 loss.

Although the Tigers were unable to come away with wins, head coach Sean Gaston said the team was able to take some positives away from the games.

“Drake Dawson did a great job in his first Varsity outing against a stacked lineup,” he said. “I am excited to see him continue to develop. I thought our pitchers did a good job throwing strikes, but now we need to work on being able to mix our pitches and get out of the middle of the plate.”

Moving forward, Gaston said they need to keep supporting the younger players as they get comfortable with their varsity roles.

“This next week will be a big week for us as we continue to get experience for our players, refine roles, and most importantly, push our level of intensity to a place that allows to leave every game knowing we gave it our all,” Gaston said. “I think these boys  have some ability they have not even tapped, yet, and that is what we will be working on everyday moving forward.”
