Albert Lea High School vocal music department will present a show choir showcase concert at 7 p.m. Monday in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door. Family music concert passes are not valid for the concert since it is a fundraiser.
Performing in the concert will be four different show choirs and selected reprise acts from Tigers Roar. Both pop groups from Albert Lea High School, a middle school group from Southwest Middle School and the collegiate show choir from North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City will perform. The senior girls’ quartet will perform “Oceans,” Maggie Miller and Carley Talamantes doing “Ex’s and Oh’s” and Kitchen Cinco performing “I Will Survive,” as well.
This is the sixth year for such an event and is the only fundraiser for the show choir this year.
This is the first year that Southwest Middle School has had a show choir in many years. Seventh-grade students rehearse once a week before school and will perform “Believer,” “I Believe I Can Fly” and “I’m a Believer.” The group of 41 students is directed by Mary Bissen.
SASS is the women’s pop choir at ALHS. They began in January and rehearse one morning a week. They will perform “Bring Me Little Water Silvy,” “Mean” and “You Will Be Found.” They are directed by Diane Heaney.
CATaclysmic, a group with students in grades nine through 12 will perform “Can’t Stop This Feelin’,” “Walkin’ on Sunshine,” a Billy Joel hits medley, “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and “I’ll Be There For You.” They rehearse before school one to two mornings per week. CATaclysmic is directed by Heaney and has an accompanying combo of Romario Rosas, Htee Wah Shee and Dylan Callahan.
