Harland Nelson, 1926-2018

Funeral services for Harland “Hud” Nelson, 91, of Albert Lea will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Clayton Balsley will officiate. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Saturday. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Hud died Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Community.

Harland “Hud” Nelson was born Sept. 3, 1926, in Albert Lea, the son of Otto and Inga Nelson. After attending the Albert Lea school system, he worked as a welder at Midway Machine Shop until 1953, when he started Nelson Silo & Dairy Supplies. He sold Madison silos and Van Dusen equipment until 1981.He was an avid hunter and trap shooter, and enjoyed golfing.

Hud married Pauline “Polly” Hansen on May 15, 1958, who survives him along with a daughter, Annette (Larry) Lindquist, of Spirit Lake, Iowa; two grandchildren, Bill Lindquist of Blooming Prairie and Tara Lindquist of Rose Creek; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hayden; sisters Ramona Peterson and Althea Schmidt, both of Albert Lea; brother-in- law, Richard Jensen, of Edina; sister-in-law, Vera (Kenneth) Nelson, of Albert Lea; and many nieces and nephews.

Hud was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Viola Nelson; brother, Kenneth Nelson; and in-laws Elmer and Naomi Hansen, Betty Jensen, Roger and Violet Hansen, Richard Peterson and Marvin Schmidt.
