A spring storm that led to messy road conditions and the cancellations of area schools is forecast to taper off Tuesday night — but not before leaving 8 inches of snow as of press time.

The storm was an unwelcome occurrence for many in April after much of the previous snowfall had already melted.

It was expected to bring anywhere from 1/2 inch to 1 inch of snow per hour. Moderate snow was expected to continue through 6 p.m. Tuesday, with blowing snow also expected in western, southern and central Minnesota as winds were forecast to gust as high as 30 to 35 mph.

Temperatures are expected to fall overnight into the single digits.

Though a warmer day is forecast on Thursday near 38, the rest of the week is expected to be cooler, with highs near the mid-20s Friday through Sunday.

A chance of snow returns Monday.
