The first presentation of the Dorothy Godtland Lecture Series will be the Art of Jewelry Making by Patty Tewes. The presentation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at The Albert Lea Art Center, 226 W. Clark St. The Art Center doors will open at 6 p.m. The presentation is free and open to the public.
According to a press release, Tewes has always found artsy endeavors to be a comfortable path for her. Her journey toward jewelry making has been as curvy as some of the pieces of metal that she bends. Her love of the arts started with music at age six. This love eventually turned into her college degree. Besides music, she has always dabbled in things crafty including, counted cross stitch, sewing, crewel work, quilting, crochet, knitting and spinning her own yarn.
Her foray into jewelry started over 14 years ago, when she began simply stringing beads with her daughters. That quickly advanced to her collecting semi-precious gemstones, which often detoured the family on vacation trips stopping at any small gem dealer she could find. Eventually, she began taking classes with master jewelers to learn the art of metal manipulation. She said she loves to combine these two elements into pieces of beauty that bring joy to the wearer.
Patty resides in Albert Lea with her husband, Bob.
