Letter: Employees should work together

The article in the Albert Lea Tribune about funds for FEMA events sounded more like Freeborn County department heads Sue Miller, Scott Woitas, Tom Jensen and Pat Martinson ganging up on Winston Beiser having a tantrum than a legitimate concern. Jensen, Freeborn County’s administrator, seems to point the finger at Winston because it is so much easier to place blame than to actually solve a problem. The article made it sound as if Jensen gets his advice from department heads. What a leader!

Winston does an excellent job as Freeborn County ditch inspector — which is his job title. Even the commissioners discussed how well Winston has done creating working relationships within Freeborn County and how he does more work than past inspectors.

Sadly, because of the storms that caused the FEMA events, work was piled on Winston, who is a one-man department to begin with. Maybe giving the extra workload to Winston was poor planning on the county’s part. Just a thought.

Seems that vocal Miller, county engineer, describes herself as offering her services. Maybe with her and her 30-some employees, that FEMA event could have been better handled than giving the workload to a one-man department. Again, a management decision that did not make good sense.

Freeborn County is not known for its time saving or efficiency in computer systems. Maybe Winston could manage better without the help of the ditch data system.

There seems to be a lot of finger pointing going on. Maybe county employees could step up and work as a team instead of complaining, “this isn’t my job” or “this isn’t my responsibility.” Sometimes, we all have to step up and do more.

Quit complaining, and all of you work together to get the job done. It is that simple. Finger pointing does not work in adulthood.

Freeborn County commissioners: Do not let your department heads dictate who stays and who goes!
