The 11th annual Veterans Heritage Day at the St. Ansgar American Legion will be Saturday. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. Veterans, spouses and the public are invited to attend the free event.
According to a press release, coffee and rolls will be served in the morning and lunch will be served by Paradise Pizza. Chars Polka Band will play at the event.
Master of ceremonies will be Iraq veteran Ken Borchardt. Introductions and share a story time begins at 10 a.m.
Veterans Heritage Day is a social get together for veterans, spouses and military history enthusiasts from all over southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. It is sponsored by Vietnam veteran SSG (R) Phil Fleischer — who can be reached at P.O. Box 253, St. Ansgar, IA 50472; or 641-736-2346 — not by any veterans organization.
Fleischer grew up in Wells and graduated from Sauk Rapids High School and Mankato State College.
Veterans Heritage Day is an alcohol- and smoke-free event.
Other events planned by Fleischer include the 15th annual Veterans Appreciation Day on Sept. 8 and the 21st annual veterans Christmas party on Dec. 8.
