1. Dueling pianos

Yes, there will be two pianos, but there’s a bit more involved in this Las Vegas-style, adults-only show. “Mischief & Mayhem — Dueling Pianos on Steroids” is a variety show that includes other instruments, games and costume tributes to great performers from the Blues Brothers to James Brown. The show begins at 8 p.m. Saturday in the American Legion’s event center. The event is open to the public. Tickets will be available beforehand or at the door the night of.

2. Veterans photo display

Local veterans who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam as well as those currently serving will be part of a photo display, “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon,” honoring area veterans. The photo display will include over 40 tables of material. “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon” is open from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Northbridge Mall space previously occupied by Maurices.

3. Tribute to female singers

Ahead of Mother’s Day, shore up on some of the classics Saturday as the D.C. Drifters bring to town the music of Patsy Cline, Linda Ronstadt, the Shirelles, Connie Francis and others. The Drifters will play backup to two female performers. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.

4. Sweets for the sweet mom

Although spice is not guaranteed, sugar and everything nice are provided Saturday at Hy-Vee for cookie decorating. Hy-Vee encourages bringing children along to help decorate cookies for moms ahead of Mother’s Day. Cookie decorating hopefuls should arrive between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday.

5. Festival of summer

Although the area is still creeping into the warmer temperatures, it’s already summer from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Big Island event center’s courtyard. The Festival of Summer small business bazaar includes over 20 local vendors selling products from jewelry to makeup to tupperware. There will be complimentary coffee, water and bars.
