Albert Lea High School band to perform

On Monday, the Albert Lea High School band department will present its final concert of the year at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
According to a press release, the concert will feature the Tiger band, symphonic band and concert band.
Tickets are available at the door and are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Children preschool-age and under are free. Family music passes are good for the event.
Various awards will be presented at the concert, including the John Phillip Sousa award for band and the Louis Armstrong award for jazz. Graduating seniors will also be recognized.
Each band was given the opportunity to help choose one of their songs for the concert.
The Tiger band, which is made up of eighth- and ninth-grade students, chose a medley of songs from “High School Musical 3: Senior Year.” They will also perform “Of Wizards and Warriors” and “In This Quiet Place.”
The ninth- and 10th-grade symphonic band chose a medley from Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy.” They are also performing “Guadalcanal March,” “Down by the Salley Gardens” and Aztec Fire.”
The concert band, which is made up of mostly juniors and seniors, chose “Eagles on Tour,” which includes the songs “Heartache Tonight,” “Desperado” and “Hotel California.”
They will also perform their Big Nine Music Festival program, which includes “Fanfare and Flourishes for a Festive Occasion” by James Curnow, “Be Thou My Vision” arranged by Travis Cross and “I Am” by Andrew Boysen Jr.
All three groups are led by ALHS director of bands Suzanne Mauer.
