Lake Mills competes at state

The Lake Mills boys’ track and field team competed in three events Thursday and two Friday at the Iowa high school state track and field meet in Des Moines. Of those five events, two of them made the finals and will race again Saturday.

The first event Thursday was the shuttle hurdle relay with the team of seniors Alex Albert and Grant Fjelstad and juniors Tommy Kaktis and Cael Boehmer. The team finished second in its heat, however, its time of 1:00.33 was enough to advance the team to the final Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Carson Rygh was next up for the Bulldogs, running the the 3,200-meter run. Rygh ran a 10:16.04 two-mile, which landed him in ninth place overall.

The final event Thursday for Lake Mills was the 4×800-meter relay with the team of Kaktis, sophomores Mason Fritz and Jackson Rice, and freshman Caleb Albert. The foursome would finish with a time of 8:34.42 and in 19th place.

Starting Friday was senior Gabe Irons in the discus event. Irons best throw was 138-10, which landed him in 18th place.

Finally for the Bulldogs, Fjelstad was up again, but this time as an individual in the 110-meter hurdles. Fjelstad cruised to a victory in his heat and qualified with the third best time for the final on Saturday.
