Shirley Forgerty, 1932-2018

Funeral services for Shirley Mae Fogerty, 86, of Albert Lea will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Lilienthal will officiate. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Friday. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Shirley died Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea.

Shirley Mae Fogerty was born March 30, 1932, in Albert Lea, the daughter of William and Minnie (Guenther) Schmidt. She grew up in rural Conger, attended District 69 school and then graduated from Albert Lea High School. Shirley went on to attend Mankato Business School. She then worked at Land O’Lakes.

On April 1, 1962, Shirley married Joseph Fogerty. Shirley became the manager at Queen Fashion. After retirement, she worked at Skyline Hardware. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, camping and traveling. She was very much a people person. Shirley enjoyed living at Good Sam’s and helping out wherever she could. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Shirley is survived by her sister, Arlene Green; sister-in-law, Naomi Schmidt; nephews Paul (Mona) Schmidt and Michael (Laurine) Green; great-nieces Sara Schmidt, Natalie Schmidt (fiance, Tyler Flugum) and Darlene (Ron) Wilks; great-nephews Logan Green and Tanner Green; and several cousins and many friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; parents Bill and Minnie; brother, Norman Schmidt; and brother-in-law, Darwyn Green.
