Fair food preview: Have a sweet tooth? Check out these options at the fair

Editor’s Note: Tribune staff went to the Freeborn County Fair on Tuesday to check out some of this year’s tasty fair food. While we didn’t have time to check out food from all of the vendors, we plan to highlight some of our favorites each day of the fair.

Anyone who knows me well, knows I have a sweet tooth. So it’s no surprise that any fair, including the Freeborn County Fair, can be a blessing or a curse for me.

I gave myself a pass at our taste-testing on Tuesday, and came across three delicious finds for sugar lovers like myself.

The first was from Grandma’s Cookies, a new vendor to our fair. Chocolate chip cookies might seem simple, but the ones from that stand were by far some of the most delicious cookies I have ever tasted.

Whether you eat them while they’re still warm or eat them later in the day, those soft, chewy cookies are sure to be a hit no matter who tastes them.

My second treasures were desserts from the Goodface Indian Tacos stand.

I have eaten the regular Indian tacos from there before — and loved them — so it was no surprise that the strawberries and cream frybread and dessert frybread were just as delicious.

The strawberries and cream frybread featured a strawberry spread over a warm frybread with fresh whipped cream. The dessert frybread had chocolate and caramel sauce drizzled over the frybread, again with whipped cream on top.

I’d definitely consider eating all of these finds on a return trip to the fair.
