Ida Flo, 1921-2018

A memorial service for Ida Mavis Flo will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea. The Rev. Eileen Woyen will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Bricelyn.

Ida Mavis (Rygh) Flo, 97, of Apple Valley died Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at Augustana Nursing Home in Apple Valley.

Mavis was born to Lewis and Lillian Rygh on Nov. 3, 1921, in rural Bricelyn and baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church near Bricelyn. She graduated from Rake High School in 1940. Mavis was united in marriage to Marlin “Nig” Flo on Aug. 21, 1945, at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. She was a farmer’s wife for many years, doing a lot of field work with Marlin and raising their two children. Mavis was also employed by Streater for 12 years and ran her own home health care business for eight years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.

Mavis loved watching the Minnesota Twins, doing crafts, braiding rugs and doing giant jigsaw puzzles with her son, Loyle, on summer vacations. She loved her flowers and always had a beautiful garden. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very proud of each and every one of them and would pray each and every night for her family.

She is survived by daughter, Randi Johnson, of Rosemount; daughter in-law, Micheline Flo, of Ath, Belgium; five grandchildren, Dan Flo and his son, Patrick, of Albert Lea, Michael Flo and his son, Nolan, of Ath, Belgium, Andrea (Scott) Lyman and their children Cole, Blake and Brooke of Lakeville, and Darrick Johnson and Kyle Johnson, both of Inver Grove Heights; brother-in-law, Dale (Barbara) Flo, of Le Sueur; sisters-in-law JoAnn Green of Albert Lea and Donna Arneson of Sun City, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews, including two special nephews, Ronald and Thomas Rygh, who helped her after the passing of her husband.

Mavis was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marlin “Nig” Flo; son, Loyle Flo; brothers Lloyd (Wanda) Rygh, Cecil (Alma) Rygh and Glenn Rygh; sister, Bernice Rygh; parents Lewis and Lillian Rygh; father- and mother-in-law, Joseph and Madeline Flo; brothers-in-law Lester (Annie) Flo, Arlo (Hilma) Flo, Ronald (Beverly) Flo and Harry Green; sisters-in-law Glorian “Toots” Kennedy and Lorna (Walley) Anderson; and her best friend, Lillian Wyrum.
