Kernel Days kicks off this weekend in Wells

Wells Kernel Days weekend activities are already off to a running start.

Thursday activities include the Wells Library Foundation salad luncheon, Kernel Days Community Supper and the Little Miss Kernel Days Program.

The Wells Depot Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and will host barrel train rides for children from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A free lunch and root beer floats will be provided by Bevcomm and CCF Bank from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the bank parking lot.

Many of the activities at Half Moon Park begin at 5 p.m. Friday, as well. Lions bingo, food stands, the beer garden, giant inflatables, the petting zoo, sand volleyball tournaments and helicopter rides will take place at the park until the fireworks display, which is at 9:30 p.m.

Activities will pick back up on Saturday, starting with the Maple Valley Classic Car Show at 8 a.m. in downtown Wells. The Wells Depot Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and there will be free swimming at the Wells Municipal Swimming Pool from 1:30 to 5 p.m.

Many of the events at Half Moon Park will continue Saturday, such as the petting zoo, inflatables, food stands, Lions bingo and the beer garden, among others.

There will also be a gaga ball tournament at the soccer field, a childrens pedal pull and live entertainment at the park throughout the day.

The festivities will wind down Sunday with the Veterans of Foreign Wars pancake breakfast, Lions golf tournament and a church service in the park. The Wells Depot Museum will be open from noon to 4 p.m.
