Duplicate Bridge
Six tables played Duplicate Bridge on Aug 14 at the Senior Center in Austin. Winners were Vandy Newman and Bud Higgins, first place; Rick Stroup and John Leisen, second place; Loren Cleland and Dave Ring, third place; Jim Fisher and Dave Solomonson, fourth place; Edna Knobbe and Kathy Leisen, fifth place; and Lorraine Lippert and Ron Peters, sixth place.
Five tables played Duplicate Bridge on Aug. 15 at the Senior Center in Austin. Winners were Gail and Ray Schmidt, first place; Vandy Newman and Ron Peters, second place; Joyce Crowe and Millie Seivers, third place; Larry Crowe and Jim Fisher, fourth place; and Loren Cleland and Dave Ring, fifth place.
Duplicate Bridge is played at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and at noon on Wednesdays. Players come from Adams, Austin, Albert Lea, Rose Creek, Northwood and Mason City. All bridge players are welcome to come and play.Â
Women Veterans of Freeborn County
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Women Veterans of Freeborn County met at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 1 at American Legion Post 56 in Albert Lea.
Women veterans present included Pat Johannsen, Barb Bab, Deanna Luedtke, Sandy Maiden, Joan Paczkowski and Judi Olson. A new member, Kimberly Aamonds, also joined the group. Aamonds is an Air Force veteran.
The treasurer’s report was given. Luedtke relinquished the treasury to Olson. All checks were accounted for, the checkbook was balanced and all bank statements and checkbooks were given to Olson.
All veterans and their families were encouraged to attend the veterans picnic and fun day at the Veterans Affairs Clinic in Albert Lea from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The group discussed the 100th anniversary of the American Legion Parade in Minneapolis on Saturday. Due to many other activities taking place, the group decided they would not attend.
A listing of all the women veterans in Freeborn County and its surrounding counties has been received. Nothing more has been done with the information as of yet.
The fall luncheon will take place Sept. 29 at the American Legion Post in Apple Valley.
Luedtke read several articles of interest.
Maiden took food donations to the food pantry.
The next meeting of the Women Veterans of Freeborn County will be at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 5 at American Legion Post 56.
The group encourages all women military veterans to join them for an informal lunch, discussion and camaraderie.
