Veteran Appreciation Day planned

The 15th annual Veteran Appreciation Day will take place Sept. 8 at the American Legion in St. Ansgar, Iowa. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. The event is free to attend.

According to a press release, the day will start with coffee and rolls. Char’s Polka Band will play polkas, waltzes and patriotic music. Master of ceremonies will be Iraq veteran Ken Borchardt. Introductions and share- a-story time will begin at 10 a.m., and lunch will be served by Paradise Pizza.

Veteran Appreciation Day  is a social get-together for veterans, their spouses and military history enthusiasts from southern Minnesota and northern Iowa, the release states.

Veterans are asked to bring or wear part of their military uniform, while their spouses are encouraged to share stories about other veterans in their families. Those who attend are welcome to bring photos or other memorabilia, as well.

Veteran Appreciation Day is sponsored by Phil Fleischer at P.O. Box 253, St. Ansgar, IA 50472; or 641-736-2346 — not by any veterans organization. The event is alcohol- and smoke-free.

The 21st annual veterans Christmas party is scheduled for Dec. 8.
