The Albert Lea boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in Winona on Saturday at the Jim Flim run.

The boys’ team duplicated its stellar performance from earlier in the week, and while the girls’ team ran incomplete, it still had many times improve.

Junior Sonny Ortega-Roseli was the top finisher for the boys’ team, finishing in sixth place overall with a time of 17:10.8. Senior Grant Herfindahl also finished in the top 10 at eighth place with a time of 17:21.2.

Rounding out the top-five times for the Tigers were junior Travis Jensen, 12th place (17:33.2); senior JV Moreno, 22nd place (17:53.2) and sophomore Aaron Bauers, 30th place (18:08.2).

“A few weeks ago Rochester Century defeat my boys team by about 100 points,” said head coach Jim Haney. “Today, the boys defeated Century by a comfortable margin. We still have things we want to accomplish, and we will continue to work toward competing for a Big Nine title.”

The girls’ team had four runners compete, making them ineligible for a team score.

Sophomore Jaiden Venem was the top finisher, coming in 55th place with a time of 23:26.4. Sophomore Alivia Adams came in 71st place with a time of 24:15.2, sophomore Katelyn Uthke finished in 82nd with a time of 25.50.4 and sophomore Htoo Wah Tee came in 90th with a time of 30:27.6.

“My girls ran very well,” Haney said. “I was happy that the times were lower and that they competed very well during the race. Once we start our speed training I look forward to a steady decline in the times and our places will be better.”

The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday with a meet in Mankato.
