Huskies outswim the Tigers

The Albert Lea girls’ swim and dive team traveled to Owatonna Thursday night in search of its first team win of the season.

Even with some strong finishes in a number of races, the Tigers came up just short, losing to the Huskies 94-83.

Senior Emily Taylor had a strong night for Albert Lea, taking first place in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle with times of 26.33 and 57.09, respectively.

Sophomore Jaeda Koziolek also took home a first-place finish by winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.08.

The Tigers had four events finish in second place at the meet, including Koziolek in the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.58) and freshman Taya Jeffrey in the 100-yard butterfly (1:17.86). The 200-yard medley team of Jeffrey, Taylor, Koziolek and freshman Brooke Hanson took second place with time of 2:02.58.

The relatively young team of eighth-grader Ava Troster, freshmen Aliyah Studier and Leah Rognes, and junior Odelia Jensen finished in second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:02.89.

Another notable Tigers finish was Jeffrey taking third in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:48.20.

The Tigers fall to 0-4 on the season and will be back in the pool Thursday when they host the Winhawks of Winona in their first home meet of the season.
