Principal’s Corner by Nick Sofio

This past Friday, Lakeview students participated in our annual walk-a-thon fundraiser. As a way to align and support the Blue Zones Project, the walk-a-thon has become the primary fundraiser for our school over the past nine years. With each passing year, our students become more and more enthusiastic about participating in this event with their classmates and teachers.

The walk-a-thon is coordinated each year by a dedicated group of individuals of our school community. The meticulous planning, preparing and organizing by our parent teacher organization, LESO, has allowed this day to be a success each and every year.

Beyond the walk-a-thon, LESO plans many other events and experiences for our students during the school year. Some fun before and after school events they have planned for our students have included  a back-to-school picnic, merry muffin breakfast, family fun night, movie night, fun night breakfast and family folk dance night.

LESO also takes a very active role with the day-to-day student learning within our building. In supporting literacy, they coordinate our twice-a-year Scholastic Book Fair. Not only does the book fair provide an opportunity for our students to purchase books for their home library at a reasonable cost, book fair points are utilized by teachers to build up their classroom library. In addition, LESO supports our Hollow Tree reading program in the library, our Makerspace program and sponsors our annual visit by Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre.

The families of our students are such an integral part of making these events successful through volunteering time to help at an event and/or attend monthly LESO meetings. We appreciate all those who have volunteered at events in the past, and encourage others to consider helping out where and when it fits best. If you would like more information about volunteer opportunities, you can contact LESO at LESO241@gmail.com.

Lakeview Elementary School staff and students are forever grateful for our amazing families — past and present — who have partnered with our building to provide so many fun and unique opportunities for our students each year.
