Albert Lea girls compete in Big Nine Conference swim meet

ROCHESTER — The Albert Lea girls’ swim and dive team headed to Rochester Saturday afternoon for the Big Nine Conference meet. Of the 12 events at the meet, the Albert Lea team placed in the top eight in six of them.

The team of sophomore Jaeda Koziolek, senior Emily Taylor, and freshmen Taya Jeffrey and Brooke Hanson notched the first top eight finish in the first race of the day by taking eighth in the 200-yard medley relay. The group finished the race with a time of 1:58.00.

Next up was Taylor in the 50-yard freestyle. She finished in second place with a time of 25.30, just .29 seconds behind the first-place finisher. Koziolek then took her turn in an individual event, grabbing a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.95.

It was Koziolek again four events later taking fourth place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.92. Taylor got her second individual medal and third overall in the next event by finishing sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.73.

The Tigers capped the meet off with an eighth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Jeffrey, Taylor, Koziolek and freshman Leah Rognes finished the race with a time of 4:03.22.

Taylor and Koziolek each finished with two individual medals and two relay medals. Jeffrey finished with two relay medals, and Rognes and Hanson each had one relay medal.

The Tigers will be back in the pool Nov. 7, when they go back to Rochester Recreation Center for the Section 1A swim and dive meet.
