Sex offender pleads not guilty to sending messages to child

An Albert Lea high-risk predatory offender who allegedly exchanged sexual text and video messages with a 15-year-old girl and threatened to send her images to other people over the internet entered a provisional not guilty plea Thursday in Freeborn County District Court.
Travis Kyle Mayer, 30, is charged with one count of engaging in electronic communication relating or describing sexual conduct with a child and one count of distributing via electronic communication material that relates to or describes sexual conduct with a child.
Mayer is classified as a Level 3 offender, an offender with the highest likelihood of reoffending.
A pre-plea investigation report was filed Thursday. An omnibus hearing is scheduled for Oct. 31.
