Carlyle Engebretson, 1931-2018

Funeral services for Carlyle Engebretson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, 301 W. Clark St. in Albert Lea. The Rev. Sean Forde will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Thompson, Iowa.

Carlyle Engebretson

Carlyle W. Engebretson, 87, passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea. He was born July 25, 1931, to parents Carl and Emma (Dahle) Engebretson near Thompson.

Carlyle grew up on their farm near Thompson and attended country school. He resided in Kiester and Eagan.

He married Janet (Hillman) on Oct. 5, 1991, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thompson. He was an over-the-road car transport driver until retirement.

Carlyle lived on his acreage near Kiester and enjoyed collecting old cars. In his free time he enjoyed gardening and spending time in his shop puttering. He was a man of few words, but he was very intelligent and had a kind heart. He loved spending time with his family and being a grandpa. Carlyle will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; stepchildren Julie (Robert) Aamodt of Lake Mills, Tracy Thompson of Kiester and Amy (Chris) Rosenthal of Buffalo Lake; grandchildren Aaron (Becky) Aamodt, Cory (Renee) Aamodt, Scott Aamodt, Tess Haukoos, Isaac Haukoos and Lilah Rosenthal; great-grandchildren Hannah Aamodt, Abby Aamodt, Kylie Hanson, Bentley Steinhauer and Liam Steinhauer; and many beloved nieces and nephews Darlene (Dick) Jordahl, Lorraine (Bill) Goette, Mavis (Eldar) Westergaard, Glorian (Jerry) Hamson, Clifford Engebretson, Connie (Jan) Engebretson, Larry (Nancy) Nelson, Alan Nelson, Wayne (Linda) Nelson, Sandi (Frank) Augenstein, Rick Engebretson, Scott (Julie) Engebretson and Lori (Dean) Wurgler.

Carlyle was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Emma; his siblings Maureen Engebretson, Chris Engebretson, Morris Engebretson, Harry Engebretson, Willy Engebretson, Carmen Engebretson, Gladys Nelson, Sam Engebretson and Laurence Engebretson; nephew, Lloyd; and niece, Diane.

Memorials are preferred to Albert Lea Hospice, Good Samaritan Society, Peace and Power or the donor’s choice.
