Carole Nelson

Carole died peacefully at home with family by her side Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018. She courageously fought a two-year battle with cancer, showing both dignity and grace.

She was born Jan. 13, 1943, in Kiester, the daughter of John and Pearl (Shellen) Courrier. She grew up on a farm near Kiester and graduated from Kiester High School. Carole attended business school in Mankato, and then began working at Wilson & Co. in Albert Lea.

She worked for a bank in Arizona for a short time before she met and married Rodger “Archie” Nelson on Nov. 5, 1966, at First Lutheran Church.

They made Albert Lea their home. In addition to raising three sons — Mike, Steve and Kevin — Carole did secretarial work for Grace Lutheran Church, Ascension Lutheran Church, the credit union and Brookside Education Center and Hawthorne Elementary School. After retirement she enjoyed working occasionally at Herberger’s.

Carole had many interests. She enjoyed hardanger projects, playing bridge, gardening, flowers and cooking. She especially enjoyed spending time with those she cared about most.

Her most treasured moments were time spent with family — especially her grandchildren and coffee with her friends.

Carole is survived by her loving husband of more than 52 years, Rodger “Archie” Nelson, of Albert Lea; three sons, Michael John (Mindy) Nelson of Albert Lea and their children Hattie and Archie, Steven Edward (Amy) Nelson of Rochester and their children Emily, Clare and Samuel, and Kevin Rodger (Jill) Nelson of Albert Lea and their children Ryan and Grace; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Beverly and Warren Severtson of Austin and Jim and Diane Nelson of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Larry Courrier.
