Duplicate Bridge

Nine teams played Duplicate Bridge on Oct. 23 at the Senior Center in Austin. Winners were Lorraine Lippert and Ron Peters, first place; Barb Engebretson and Orrin Roisen, second place; Gail and Ray Schmidt, third place; and John Leisen and Rick Stroup, fourth place.

Winners were Dave Ring and Orrin Roisen, first place; Barb Engebretson and Eunice Michaelis, second place; and Edna Knobbe and Cleo Osmundson, Loren Cleland and Bud Higgins and Joyce Crowe and Lorraine Quinlivan, tied for third place.

Duplicate Bridge is played at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and noon Wednesdays. Players come from Adams, Austin, Albert Lea, Rose Creek, Northwood and Mason City. All Bridge players are welcome to come and play.

Women Veterans of Freeborn County

The regularly scheduled meeting of the Women Veterans of Freeborn County was Oct. 3 at the American Legion in Albert Lea.

Women veterans present included Ruth Perry, Judi Olson, Deanna Luedtke, Sandy Maiden, Kimberly Aamonds, Pat Johannsen, Julie Hanson and Barb Babb.

Babb shared television coverage of the Friendship Counts movement.

Olson gave the treasury report.

The group discussed nursing home insurance.

Maiden suggested business cards be made up to promote Women Veterans of Freeborn County. Babb will help design some before the next meeting.

Luedtke discussed information about two new dental plans. Information was shared with those who were interested.

Luedtke shared articles of interest with the group.

A nationwide bell ringing has been announced by various groups on Nov. 11 as a solemn reminder of the sacrifice and service of veterans. Citizens and organizations are encouraged to toll the bells in their communities 21 times at 11 a.m. Nov. 11.

Maiden made a motion for the treasury to reimburse Luedtke for an ink cartridge due to all the reports she writes. The motion was passed.

Maiden volunteered to take food donations to the food pantry.

The next scheduled meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at American Legion Post 56.

All women veterans are welcome to join the group.
