Marleen Steen, 1937-2018

Funeral services for Marleen E. Steen of Freeborn will be at 2 p.m. Monday at The Church of All Saints in New Richland. The Rev. Mike Cronin will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in New Richland.
Marlene died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. She was 81.
Marlene was born Nov. 5, 1937, in Blooming Prairie, the daughter of Lawrence B. and Blanche E. (Betlach) Antl.
She graduated from Blooming Prairie High School.
On Dec. 28, 1957, she was united in marriage to Alvin E. Steen in Blooming Prairie.
Marlene was employed for over 23 years as a certified nursing assistant at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea and for five years as the activities director at New Richland Care Center.
After retirement she continued to be a caregiver and enjoyed taking care of people. She was an active member of All Saints Church in New Richland.
Marlene enjoyed dancing — she’d rather dance than eat, played the accordion, country western music, baking and canning. Her favorite song was “I Fall to Pieces” by Patsy Kline.
Marlene is survived by her children Rebecca (Gerald) Kuschel of Waseca, Paul (Kay) Steen of Owatonna, Dawn (Larry) Weller of Chanhassen, Jim Steen of Freeborn and Mike Steen of Austin. There are 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, cousins, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; a stillborn child; sister, Darlene Antl; grandson, Jacob Kuschel; and special friend, Ray Nemec.
